Hindenburg Disaster

I liked the Hindenburg Disaster picture because it shows different emotions. Its tragic in a way that people died in it but its cool because its not something that happens everyday in life.

Summary
As the zeppelin came down in flames, many photographers scrambled to take the picture, but only Sam Shere's captured the true tragedy of the Hindenburg disaster. Shere's picture was widely popular from Life Magazines to being the cover of Led Zeppelin's first album.

I learned that the tragedy lead to the end of zeppelins, and how and why the zeppelin exploded.

Biography
Sam Shere was born on April 15th of 1905 Minsk, Belarus. He dropped out of school when he was in his 7th grade. Sam died on June 8th of 1982 in Florida, US.

PICTURE 2
Lunch atop a skyscraper

I like this picture because it show bravery and symbolism.

Summary
11 men were having a nice lunch 840 feet above Manhattan. The picture taken was taken for a promotional campaign for the massive skyscraper complex. It symbolizes American resilience and ambition at the time when they were desperately needed. It shows New york is full of bravery and the home of hard working citizens.

One thing i learned is that people wear shirts, have mugs, and own magnets that have the picture on them.

PHOTOGRAPHER : UNKNOWN

PICTURE 3
Pillars of Creation
I like this photo because it shows how interesting space can be and how much we have left to explore ( a lot).

Summary
The Hubble Space Telescope had a lot of obstacles in its path. It took multiple pictures that made us awe and help us make scientific discoveries.

One thing i learned from the text is that the Eagle nebula is 6,500 light-years from Earth.
Photographer : Nasa

Nasa was created by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in july 29th of 1958.

Picture 4
I like the Loch Ness Monster photo because we will never know if it was real or not.

Summary
The picture was taken 1934 but it turned out to be a fraud made by Wilson.

One thing that i learned is that it is not real.

Picture 5
I like "north Korea" because it gives us an inside look in to a country full of dictatorship.

Summary
David Guttenfelder was able to go inside the highly forbidden country. And for the first time NK allowed 3g connections to foreigners. He was able to post picture on instagram.

I learned that some people were allowed access into NK

David was born in Iowa and graduated from University of Iowa

One of the pictures he took.

Fashion Photography

1.  First they put on bunch of make up, then they messed with her hair. After that they photoshopped her head and her neck to make her look more attractive.
2. They made her head more attractive with photoshop... They also made her body (neck length, body shape, and leg thickness... etc). They also made her body lighter and got rid of her freckles.
3. They made a fat lady skinny to look more attractive to the general public. The whole body and her hair was changed completely.

4. I think it is acceptable if you change he lighting a bit but i don't think it is acceptable if you change a person's body or their appearance by a major amount.
5. I don't there is a time where it would be more unacceptable, but they all have a certain point where they're unacceptable.
6. I think just changing the surrounding like list or changing minor detail is ok but changing major things like appearance would be not ok.
7.Photojournalis could be pictures of anything from A to Z. Fashion photography is related to fashion and fashion advertisements. Although Photojournalism could be about fashion, they could be different things too.
8. I think any type of photography shouldn't have too many difference with reality (differences as in major differences). Although they could be altered a little bit if it acceptable by the general public.
9. I think you showing us the videos to tell us that everything we see isn't reality and may be fake.
10. The videos aren't about guys because girls usually think that if they buy the advertised product (clothing), they'l look like the models but guys usually don't think that.? I do not know

American Soldier

A. I think the most powerful image is the "A HUG FAREWELL", because it shows the reader how his family, his friends, and how he felt when he was being taken away for 14 weeks for basic training.

B. The images work to tel a story by showing us how he changed over the year of his service in the military.

C. The captions enhance the story by giving us a deeper understanding of the pictures and the situations.

D.  Ian Fisher decides to join the military and leave his family behind. Before he leaves, his family threw a farewell party for him. Ian has a hard time adjusting to the military life but quickly adjusts after he gets his first gun. When he was almost finished with the basic training he started to fit in.

Funny Captions

Jenny getting a chicken sandwich for her 13 overweight cats at home.
The next day she finds out that her cats had died a year ago from diabetes.

John and Tammy are having a romantic date for their 60 year anniversary.
It was their last anniversary as the tide came in...

As you can clearly see, Sarah, hates everyone.
Later that day she became super triggered and threatened the cashier because he assumed her gender.

1. When i was looking through the photos i was think how life does not work out how people want them to.

Abandoned Theme Parks

1. I chose SixFlags NewOrleans. I would go there because I would be cool to see all the new orleans themed building and attractions all rusted and busted by hurricane Katrina. Also I think it'll be cool to see the "miniature New Orleans" buildings flooded because it can look how the real New Orleans will look if it got hit with another hurricane.
2.
3.
 1. An abandoned stadium / building
 2. Antartica
 3. A middle of a jungle
 4. A cliff
 5. In an ocean

4.
5. I would take pictures here because there would be a lot of interesting things to take pictures of like for example graffiti and broken chairs.

6. First i would have to find an abandoned stadium, then go there. It might be illegal to enter so I need to bring black clothing i can sneak in at night. Thats pretty much it.

Africa

1. I was surprised that Nick could get so close to these wild animals. I was also surprised that Africa had all these diverse aniamls that he could get close to, like the cheetah. I also saw a big body of water in one of the photo and that also kind of surprised me.
2.
3.This is my favorite picture by Nick Brandt because it shows the viewer how many elephants are being killed for their ivory.
4. Balance is most evident because the rangers and ivory are spread along the field and there is dry ground and cloudy sky.
5. He used a Pentax 67II with only 2 fixed lenses. this is important because he didn't use zoom lenses so he had to go right up to the big animals to take the pictures.
6. His reason of taking these photos is to raise awareness.
7. His hope is to possibly end poaching.

Great Black and White Photographers part 3 Minor White

Minor White. I like these two pictures because the ocean is black and that shows how scary they can be and i like the bottom one because I like how the road fades off and how the trees are white.

I see the dark ocean that unleashes fear upon us.
I smell the seaweed covered in sea salt. A smell that reminds me of my grandparents that live near the shore.
I hear the waves crashing into other. I hear the thunderous sounds from the waves.
I taste the seafood that comes from the ocean and the saltiness.
I feel homesick. A feel that takes me back to my grandparent's gear shop.

I see a wide valley in a cloudy day. I also see a gravel road fading off in to the distance. I also see a red barn off in the distance.
I smell the horse hey from the barn and the smell of fresh leaves.
I hear a old auto mobile crawling along the road. A cow mooing and pigs eating their meal.
I taste the cool fresh air. I also taste the fresh leaves.
I feel the cool breeze. I feel open and free in the open valley.

Academic Shoot reflection and critique

1. The challenge was finding a classroom i could go into. The teacher i was going to go to didn't have class that period.
2, I thought about focusing the picture the most. I tried auto focus and if it didn't work I  tried manual focus.
3. If i could re take the photos i would try to focus on the simplicity rule.
4. I would take the framing pictures again.
5. I think the rule of thirds will be the easiest.
6. I think the framing will the hardest.
7. I'm still not completely sure of no mergers.

http://elijahsphotojournalismblog.blogspot.com/

I like how you took the simplicity picture from above and I like how the balance photo was taken behind them.

But i didn't like how there was a extra person in the framing picture.

Aperture

2.8 aperture

16 aperture

1. We should relate our pupils to the aperture lenses because they both control the light.
2.The smaller the aperture more light gets captured, the higher the aperture less light gets captured
3.If the F number if high the background is going to be sharp but if the F number is low the background is going to be blurry.

Shutter Speed.
high shutter speed

Slow shutter speed

1.
a. I would use medium because there would be anything fast moving in the picture.
b. I would use medium because there wouldn't be a lot of stuff going on but there is still people walking.
c. I would use fast because their action and movements can be fast and you have to use fast to capture their movements clearly.
d. I would use fast to capture their movements
e. I would use medium
f. I would use fast

a. I would use medium
b. I would use slow
c. I would use medium
e. I would use medium
f. I would use slow

"Auto" The camera choses the shutter speed and the aperture.
"Aperture priority" You select the aperture size but the camera choses the shutter speed.
"Manual" You choses both

ISO
ISO 200
ISO 6400

1. You can make the picture look clearer and less blurry.
2. Mostly use lower ISO in where theres light.
3. When there isn't as much light.

CANON
Aperture settings 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22 and in between
Shutter Speed   1 sec    1/60     1/4000 sec and in between
ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 6400, 12800, and 25600
1. The main of this article regarding manipulating pictures was that it is getting easier to edit them and change them. Back when the camera was invented editing pictures was a thing. but now it has been easier and easier to edit and manipulate them.

2. The philosophy of New York times are that the photographers have to turn in all of their proofs to prove they didn't change the photo in a way that will alter the story dramatically.

3. I think you can alter stuff that will help you see the image like for example the lighting but not edit it drastically like for example editing a picture of a presidential candidate to make them look bad.

4.
ojsimpson12
I think this is unethical because it makes OJ Simpson look even more bad or "menacing".  The editing was used to be against a person.

nationalgeographic11

5. I think this photo of the pyramids is the least unethical because it doesn't look edited and it is not used to be against  anyone. It is manipulating objects and that is not as ab as manipulating people.
